May 13, 2008 - Lighthouse Kids Receive Preservation Award.  At the Annual Awards Ceremony of the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance, Lighthouse Kids received a 2008 Preservation Achievement Award for outstanding education, advocacy and restoration of White Island Lighthouse.
The New Hampshire Preservation Alliance enthusiastically recognized this project, that they believe gives real hope for our future in preservation as a society. The Alliance goes on to say:
"Guided by recommendations made by preservation architects and lighthouse experts, the Lighthouse Kids have partnered with the N.H. Division of Parks and Recreation of the N.H. Department of Resources and Economic Development, a state agency that is administratively responsible for the lighthouse, to conserve the damage tower under difficult logistical conditions and under conservation constraints posed by the presence of the roseate tern, an endangered species. Undeterred by further damage caused by a severe coastal storm in April 2007, the Lighthouse Kids have continued to raise funds to repair the tower a second time, to assist in the rehabilitation of the light keeper's cottage, and to build a marine landing on the island."
Fall 2007 â€" New Hampshire Glass of Portsmouth NH repairs tower window damaged in April storm.
April 19th, 2007 - the Patriot's Day ocean storm washed away the covered walkway, solar panels to operate the light and the foghorn. The United States Coast Guard replaced the solar panels and foghorn, since they remain responsible for maintaining the aid to navigation.
